A Fifty Dollar Facelit

If there’s one thing about me, it’s that I love a bold bathroom. Where else in your house can you try out a bold color or print without worrying about getting sick of it? When I first set my eyes on the first floor bathroom, I fell in love with the light fixture and clawfoot tub (I mean, who wouldn’t?!). It reminded me of a prohibiton era bathroom, it was just missing one thing – color!

In our previous rental, I experimented with a dark forest green, which I loved, but it was time to switch it up. The house’s wood trim carries a warm tone, so I decided on Plum Raisin from Benjamin Moore. If anyone ever told you transforming a space is hard, they’ve never cracked open a can of paint! I painted halfway up the wall to the chair rail, along with the crown moulding, for a pop of color without overwhelming the space.

After barely giving the paint enough time to dry, it was time to get to the best part- decor! I’d seen picture rails on Pinterest, but wasn’t willing to splurge on a $200+ system. Instead, I purchased a copper pipe, hooks, chains, and a can of gold spray paint and DIY’d my own version for less than $30. My favorite hack? Goodwill frames! I got all 9 wood frames with glass for $2 per frame. I found a handful of prints to fit the color scheme, framed, and hung them as normal on the wall. I attached the chains to the pipe and then secured the pipe to the wall, allowing the chains to fall behind the frames, giving that picture rail illusion for a fraction of the price!

Now, only 2 questions remain – when will I take a bath in the clawfoot tub and should I paint the ceiling too?
