Welcome to Still Settling! My name is Gabi and I live in an almost 150-year old farmhouse-turned-suburban home in the northwest suburbs of Chicago with my husband and our two dogs. Homeownership is daunting, especially when the house is older than 12 states in the U.S., but the reward of preserving the character and history of previous generations is worth the interest rate!

This blog’s name carries two meanings- we just moved into this house in January of 2025, and as first time homeowners you could definitely say we’re still settling in. The second meaning? In this old house, nothing is quite level- and probably never will be. Join me as I settle in!
